JJ Niemann is a North Carolina-bred, New York City-based Broadway actor and content creator. After graduating from Elon University with a BFA in Music Theatre, he moved to NYC and days later began rehearsals to make his Broadway debut in The Book of Mormon. After a few years as a *Mormon* (and a pandemic later...) JJ was in the Original Broadway Cast of Back to the Future, in the ensemble and as the cover for Marty McFly & George McFly (roles which he performed at over 80 performances). He closed the production after over 600 performances between July 2023 thru January 2025. In February 2025, JJ joined the cast of Hamilton on Broadway as Charles Lee and performed at the Richard Rodgers Theatre thru August 2025. Most recently, JJ starred as Frank Abagnale Jr. in Catch Me If You Can at Marriott Theatre in the Chicagoland area (review highlights below!)
Lately, JJ has also been working with several shows in development for their workshops and readings - including the recent Broadway musical SMASH. Some of his select regional acting credits include the World Premiere of Disney's Hercules at Paper Mill Playhouse; the World Premiere of BLISS at The 5th Avenue Theatre; Sky in Mamma Mia! at Flat Rock Playhouse; Doody in Grease at Cape Playhouse; Footloose at The Rev Theatre Co.; Hairspray at The Muny; Shrek, Damn Yankees, South Pacific at Pittsburgh CLO; and the iconic TikTok musicals for you, Paige and Ratatouille.
JJ has been lovingly dubbed as the “King of Theatre TikTok” by the internet and publications such as BroadwayWorld, Backstage, and Theatrely. He creates relatable skits and backstage content for performers, theatre kids, and fellow New York City-lovers. As of September 2025, JJ has reached over 2 million followers and 800 million video views across TikTok, Instagram, & YouTube!

here's what the critics have to say...

"JJ Niemann is a star. His boyish charm, matinee idol looks, & confident, beguiling portrayal of the young con man created a magnetic antihero. Niemann has magnificent musicality in
voice and movement. It is easy to comprehend why millions follow him & why he’s
developing throngs of musical theater fans. He is a suave and debonair leading man."
"Niemann proved from the very first moment that his talent extends far beyond a phone screen. As Frank Abagnale Jr., he delivered remarkable acting, vocals, dance, and charisma, captivating the audience every second of the 2.5-hour show. Put simply, he was flawless, making the role entirely his own."

"Marriott Theatre's revival of Catch Me If You Can is fueled by a zippy, eye-catching performance from JJ Niemann, a rising young Broadway star who certainly makes clear he could play any number of lead roles in any number of future musicals."
